Respiratory Protection Training: Respirator PPE & Fit Testing

This Respiratory Protection Training course provides required workplace training on the proper selection, use, and management of respirator PPE in accordance with OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). The course covers when respirators are required, how to identify respiratory hazards, and how to safely use air-purifying respirators, supplied-air respirators, and SCBA equipment.
Participants learn essential program requirements including respirator fit testing training, medical evaluations, user seal checks, inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and cartridge change-out schedules. The training also explains employer and employee responsibilities within a respiratory protection program and supports organizations in implementing compliant, effective respiratory protection practices to reduce exposure to airborne hazards.
IMPORTANT: This online respiratory protection training must be combined with hands-on instruction and practice. OSHA requires that employees demonstrate proper respirator use, perform user seal checks, and understand limitations through practical application. This course provides the foundational knowledge component that must be supplemented with in-person training, fit testing, and supervised practice before employees use respirators in the workplace.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the training take?
The course takes approximately 60 minutes to complete. Employees can pause and resume at their convenience.
Is this training OSHA compliant?
This training is designed to help organizations meet OSHA requirements for workplace safety. It supports OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard requirements under 29 CFR 1910.134 and covers respirator PPE, fit testing, and respiratory protection program fundamentals. However, OSHA requires that this online training be combined with hands-on instruction, fit testing, and supervised practice. This course provides the knowledge component that must be supplemented with practical, in-person training before employees use respirators.
Do employees receive a certificate?
Yes. Upon successful completion, employees can generate a certificate of completion. All progress is stored and can be accessed in the main dashboard under Learner Report.
How often should employees take this training?
OSHA requires respiratory protection training before initial respirator use and retraining annually or when workplace conditions change, respirator types change, or when employees demonstrate inadequate knowledge or use. We recommend annual refresher training for all respirator users.
Can we track completion?
Yes. Training Director provides real-time tracking of assignments, completion status, and quiz scores, making it easy to verify that all employees have completed their respiratory protection training.
Does this training include fit testing?
This training covers respirator fit testing requirements, procedures, and the importance of proper fit. However, this online course does not replace the hands-on fit testing that must be conducted by qualified personnel. OSHA requires quantitative or qualitative fit testing before initial respirator use and annually thereafter. Employees must complete both this training and hands-on fit testing before using tight-fitting respirators.
What is the difference between air-purifying and supplied-air respirators?
The training covers both types in detail. Air-purifying respirators filter contaminants from ambient air using cartridges or filters and can only be used when oxygen levels are adequate (at least 19.5%). Supplied-air respirators provide clean breathing air from an external source and can be used in oxygen-deficient atmospheres or when contaminant levels exceed the protection limits of air-purifying respirators. The course explains when each type is appropriate based on hazards and exposure levels.
Does this training cover SCBA equipment?
Yes. The training provides SCBA training concepts including when self-contained breathing apparatus is required, how SCBA systems work, and basic operational principles. However, SCBA use requires extensive hands-on training, practice, and ongoing competency verification beyond what this online course provides. Organizations using SCBA must provide comprehensive in-person training specific to their equipment.
